John Eachus joined the Blue Door Gallery in summer of 2025 bringing a beautiful treasure trove of stained glass windows, suncatchers, jewelry boxes and lamps. His work is displayed in the windows of our gallery and is already a popular draw for customers.
His work incorporates not only stained glass but also rock, fossils, silver findings and even found objects. Each piece is one of a kind and have become the top choice for gift-giving clients.
John also teaches classes in stained glass. He carries sign up sheets in the gallery for those interested in learning the craft. He has recently taught classes in the Carrollton Center for the Arts.
Artist Statement: During a holiday break in December 1979, I enrolled in an evening enrichment class at Dekalb Junior College in Stone Mountain, GA. At the end of the first class, I purchased $500 of tools & materials. The instructor said that I would not be able to do what I was intending to do, until completing the entire class. The next class, I presented a finished stained glass floral window 18” x 30”. The instructor then told me that I did not need to take additional classes!

At the time, my corporate career required a transfer to Los Angeles for two years followed by another transfer to New York City. I resigned and started a stained glass studio. I met a couple from Dallas, Texas transferred to Atlanta to start construction of subdivisions for Mobile Oil Co. The husband presented me with a contract for transoms, sidelights, and front doors. There was also work for bathroom windows for the model homes. For the next ten years, I operated three stained glass studios, employing 16 artisans in north metro-Atlanta.
During the recession of 1989, a church seating company encouraged the fabrication of church stained glass windows. The studios enjoyed creating window sets for six churches a year, plus novelty windows as gifts, and architectural residential windows.
For 45 years, I have enjoyed creating stained glass art objects for personal gifts, residences and commercial buildings. For 35 years, I have enjoyed creating an atmosphere of worship depicting Biblical scenes for churches. The stained glass art has been shipped to five continents and across the United States.
As a glass artist, I have shared the joy of creating art glass. I teach others the craft and support collaborative media. I continually teach at my studio. I also teach at the John Campbell Folk Art School, Gatlinburg Arts & Crafts Community, and Douglas Cultural Arts Center. Most recently in summer of 2024, I taught 210 middle school students mosaic stained glass. This was part of the Summer Camp program of the Board of Education Douglas county.
